who

Toper Taylor is a leader in the global entertainment and media industries with over 25 years of experience, and is one of the most senior executives in the industry with the rare talent of excelling creatively and financially.

Background

Among the most respected executives in children's and family entertainment, Toper Taylor was the Co-Founder, President and Chief Operating Officer of the Cookie Jar Group, President of Nelvana Entertainment, Inc., and a television package agent at the William Morris Agency, Inc.

Toper is an expert in raising capital, buying and turning around entertainment companies and building long lasting, successful global brands and businesses. The creation of Cookie Jar (see www.cjar.com) was born out of the acquisition of Cinar Entertainment and Carson-Dellosa (see www.carson-dellosa.com) in 2004, followed by DIC Entertainment and CPLG (see www.cplg.com) in 2008. Toper orchestrated Cookie Jar into profitability and created a global industry leader and was at the helm of a company that sold 6,000 episodes to 160 countries and pioneered a digital platform sales and channel business strategy that led the industry.  He oversaw the licensing and merchandising powerhouse agency CPLG, which managed brands including Strawberry Shortcake, Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, James Cameron’s Avatar, Activision’s Skylanders, The Simpsons, Despicable Me, WWE, Sesame Street, and many more.  In October of 2012, DHX Media(see www.dhxmedia.com)  successfully acquired Cookie Jar.

Prior to founding Cookie Jar, Toper was President of Nelvana (see www.nelvana.com) for more than a decade in a tenure that started in 1990. He helped create the architecture for growth that enabled the company to go public in 1994, and eventually sell to Corus Entertainment (see www.corusent.com) in 2000. Under Toper’s guidance, Nelvana built a world class library of content and owned intellectual property, successfully managed global brands such as “Beyblade,” “Babar,” “Franklin the Turtle,” Maurice Sendak’s “Little Bear,” “Max and Ruby,” “Rolie Polie Olie,” among others. As a direct result of his stewardship, Nelvana's track record was unparalleled in the industry, airing over 20 original series in the U.S. alone during one broadcast season, while controlling both CBS and PBS Saturday morning schedules.

Toper’s first job was as a television packaging agent at the William Morris Agency (see www.wma.com).  There he covered the nascent cable industry and daytime television, including the Saturday morning kids business.  His clients included companies like Nelvana, Saban, Hanna Barbera, New World, and Viacom Productions; as well he represented talent like Tim Burton, Roseanne Barr, Peter Segal, Billy Connolly, Jonathan Roberts, Samm Art Williams, and many more.

Toper is a graduate of the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School of Communications and Journalism and recipient of the President’s Award for Outstanding Alumni Volunteerism.  He is currently a member of the Alumni Association’s Board of Governors; on the board of councilors for the Roski School of Fine Arts, founder of the Television Board of Directors for USC’s School of Cinematic Arts; a Presidential Associate; and member of Cardinal and Gold. He has three amazing children.
